A market scene in Ermopolous, Siros.
The place we are staying in Chora, Naxos.
Part of the old Venetian castle on the hill in Chora, Naxos.
More of the old Venetian castle.
Cats in the old Venetian catle. The cats here are a lot different than cats in the States. The Greeks seem to treat them more as a utility (keeping rodents down?) than as pets. They are almost never spayed or neutered, and they are usually skinny. As far as we can tell, most cast here live on the streets. They are not afraid of people at all, but they are also not friendly. They will tolerate you scritching their head, but they really seem ambivalent about it. I would guess cats outnumber dogs here at least 10 to 1.
The arch of an unfinished temple of Apollo from the 6th century B.C. It's really impressive to see in person.

A shop for Janet.

A Greek salad is pretty much a given when we eat out.

Sometimes Greek food is surprisingly like southern homecooked food, especially on Seros. This is a cucumber and tomato salad, pasta casserole, and okra.
We're not really sure why they do this, but they smash up each octopus on the rocks on the shore. Octopus seems to be a specialty on Naxos, although we haven't tried it yet on account of the smell.
